A man has appeared in court after dead animals were dumped outside a village hall. 

James Kempster of Bury Brickfield Park, Marchwood appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court this morning.

He is charged with two counts of possessing a live or dead wild bird or its parts and a single count of criminal damage.

These relate to an incident outside the village hall in Broughton where dead animals were dumped. 

The animals he is charged with possessing are a dead barn owl and a dead kestrel. 

The incident took place on March 15 this year.

Kempster, 37, is accused of damaging a shop front. 

No plea was entered to any of the charges, and the case was adjourned.

Kempster is due to appear next at Southampton Magistrates Court on September 23.

The defendant was released on conditional bail, and prevented from entering the village of Broughton.
