A CYCLING cafe that has had recognition for being the best in England has closed down.
Café Velo, in Star Lane, Ringwood, was founded in Easter 2018 by Peter Moore, an electrician by trade, and Vicky Richards, who had previously worked in the care and retail industries.
The family-run independent cafe was named Cyclist Café of the Year in England by the charity Cycling UK following a public vote and assessment from a judging panel.
But on Friday evening, September 6, the owners announced the cafe has now closed after more than six years.
A statement from the cafe said: “To our lovely loyal customers, we’re very sorry to announce we’ve made the very difficult to close Café Velo.
“We would like to thank you for your support since we took over and wish everyone the very best going forward Janet, Nicola, Kit and team.”
The quirky cafe was adorned with sporting memorabilia, signed jerseys and bicycle images.
It was often used by cyclists from near and far who enjoyed a stopover for coffee and cake or something more substantial during a ride.
Cafe Velo provided freshly cooked and locally sourced breakfasts and the likes of paninis, jacket potatoes and nachos for lunch
Alongside the café, the business had a maintenance workshop for taking on everything from gear and brake tweaks to rebuilds and even custom built bikes.
