Temporary traffic lights have been put up on Wilton Road as emergency works are carried out.
Gas company SGN is on site, after reports of "multiple" gas leaks on the road were made on Tuesday evening, August 27.
Engineers have been working on the area since Wednesday morning, and told the Journal that it will be sorted "as soon as possible".

The affected area is the end of the road, nearest to St Paul's Roundabout, causing traffic further up the A36.
No houses have been affected and nearby businesses Premier and Snack Packers said they have not been affected by the works.
Bus passengers should expect disruption during peak times and stops on either side of the road near Fountain Way have been suspended.
Operations manager David Newton said: "We're anticipating delays, as with any disruption on this section of road.
"Salisbury Reds is still running a regular service - although passengers may see delays during peak times."
