A Salisbury born singer-songwriter is touring the UK in support of her debut album.
Described as “one of the most dynamic, expressive young British singer-songwriters working today” by Guitar World, Mary Spender will embark on an eight-location tour, concluding on October 4 at Southampton Joiners, performing her album “Super. Sexy. Heartbreak.”
Mary is an independent artist and a new music business pioneer with over 94 million views on her YouTube channel. She grew up in Salisbury, attending Godolphin School, Salisbury Area Young Musicians (SAYM) and playing her first gigs in the Salisbury area.
Mary said: “The songs on Super. Sexy. Heartbreak. are the result of a few white-hot, intense and disastrous relationships, followed by very messy and painful breakups, and my ongoing desire for love and connection. It’s the album I’ve dreamt of making since I was fourteen, and I have everything to prove with these live shows.

“I was a touring musician long before I started making YouTube videos, and I’m so excited to play the album in-full with my amazing band, as well as a solo acoustic set to open. I’m giving myself nowhere to hide. I want to show people what I’m capable of.”
Mary has been an outspoken critic of exploitative label contracts and Spotify’s low artist compensation. The album was fully fan-funded through Patreon and made six-figures in revenue, through selling cassettes, CDs and vinyl LPs.
She employs a team of four, has recently played a solo show in Los Angeles, and is constantly travelling the world as an in-demand guitar and new music business expert, working with Fender and Martin Guitars, sharing platforms with the likes of Mark Ronson, talking tech with Apple CEO Tim Cook, jamming with John Illsley (Dire Straits) and Hollywood actor Tobin Bell (the Saw franchise) and playing an historic collection of Mark Knopfler’s guitars before they were auctioned off at Christie’s London.
In 2023 she was honoured by the Women’s International Music Network's annual She Rocks' Awards in California, alongside the legendary Judy Collins. This year she brought out her own signature guitar “The Heartbreaker” with the boutique French-luthiers Marceau Guitars to coincide with the release of the album, which she’ll be playing it on tour.
