A NEW Forest pub could have the best beer garden in Britain.
The White Buck Inn, in Burley, has been nominated as a finalist for the Best Pub Garden in the 2024 Great British Pub Awards.
Situated in the west of the New Forest, the Fuller’s pub is known for its beautifully kept garden which in summer is often full of colourful flowers.
Over the past two years it has changed significantly and the team have experimented with a teepee, before deciding on the raised platform area that is there now. The garden also has an outdoor bar and dining, an outdoor pizza oven, and a dog shower.
The White Buck Inn’s extensive garden allows guests to eat, drink and enjoy the sun in the summer. They have also hosted various events such as live music events and Open Bar Theatre events such as Shakespeare in the Garden.
This summer they have a performance of Much Ado About Nothing on August 8th and a ‘Little Italy Al-Fresco Evening’, both hosted in their garden area.
The pub is available to hire for private events such as celebrations and Christmas parties. Another option is to stay in the wide range of B&B style rooms and suites available.
The manager of two and a half years is Tom Tomlinson, 33, who has worked in Fuller’s pubs for nine years. He said that the team were “surprised” that they got through to the final, but “confident” in the beauty of the garden.
He mentioned that the award was really “all about the team” and showed that “the hard work pays off” and they are looking forward to the awards ceremony as a celebration of their achievements.
In this category of the competition, the pub competes against the Myrtle Tavern in Leeds, The Black Friar in Salford, The Elephant & Castle in Wheathampstead, The Three Hills in Bartlow, and The Woodman and Ruislip.
The pub has been through several rounds of judging and in the final have an unannounced visit when they will judge the garden. They then also have an online interview with the manager and other members of the team before the results are announced.
The awards ceremony is due to take place on Tuesday, September 17, in Manchester where the winners will be announced.
