Forty pubs across Wiltshire have been deemed important enough in their towns to be recognised as an Asset of Community Value.
An Asset of Community Value (ACV) is a building which is deemed to play a vital role in the character of the area, so has extra restrictions placed on it which make it harder for developers to take over the site.
Once a place is added to the list, it must be used to further the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community for a five-year period.
If it is listed as for sale within the five-year period, the community can then enact the Community Right to Bid, to try and raise enough money to buy the site.
This means that an ACV has a layer of protection from substantial changes to the site, such as housing developments.
Across Wiltshire, there are currently 40 pubs which are ACVs, 32 of which are currently open, so we've put together the ultimate list of all the pubs that sit at the heart of their communities.
