A VANDAL has graffitied a medieval wall belonging a house which recently went on the market for £2m.

Residents of flats inside the Church House complex, at 99-101 Crane Street, noticed spray paint on one of the oldest parts of the cobbled walls within the courtyard on Sunday morning, August 11.

Salisbury Diocese recently sold the Grade I listed buildings through Myddleton and Major to the Clydesdale Group on behalf of Audley Heritage.

The ineligible scribble of red paint has defaced the wall of a house rich in history.

Director Mark Moores, at Audley Heritage, described the culprit as a "mindless idiot" and said: "The building dates back to the 1500’s and reputedly Henry VIII stayed there, yet this still didn’t stop such a pathetic act of vandalism."

Church House was put up for sale last year as it was no longer suitable for the Diocese of Salisbury which relocated to Wilton's park and ride.

Many of the diocesan staff moved to share the purpose-built accommodation of the Diocesan Board of Education, which supports the Church of England’s schools across Wiltshire and Dorset.

The Clydesdale Group was contacted for comment.
