A POWER cut is affecting thousands of homes across Salisbury, particularly in the south of the city.
The Journal also understands some businesses have been affected, as well as traffic lights.
Electricity company SSE has said: "We're aware of a power cut affecting 1589 homes. This unplanned fault is affecting a large area, and it's likely several streets are affected by the same power cut.
"Our engineers are in the area and working hard to get power restored as soon as possible."
It added that the cause of the power cut is a fault on its underground network, which is the most common type of fault it sees.
"In most cases, our engineers are able to get power back on by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation, however, if the fault is severe, this may take longer to fix", the company added.
The outage was first reported just after 6pm and isn't expected to be restored until nearly midnight tonight.
