A MAN who continued to harass his ex-girlfriend while there was a restraining order against him has been jailed.

Benjamin Mortimer, of Davies Road in Swindon, admitted to harassing the same woman he 'oppressively' stalked last year.

The 27-year-old was found guilty of stalking after serving no evidence to support his case during a trial in December.

The court previously heard how Mortimer sent an "obsessive" barrage of more 1,900 emails in five months.

Part of Mortimer's sentence, imposed by Salisbury Magistrates' Court on December 18, was a restraining order which prohibited him from contacting the victim.

But just five months later, on May 19 and 20, Mortimer showed a "flagrant disregard for court orders" and contacted the victim.

Mortimer pleaded guilty to four charges at Salisbury Magistrates' Court including two charges of harassment and two breaches of a restraining order on Thursday, July 18.

Magistrates jailed Mortimer for eight weeks as the offences "are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified".

A further restraining order preventing Mortimer from contacting the victim directly or indirectly was made and lasts until July 17, 2025.
