PLANS for a solar farm just outside Salisbury are set to be approved by Wiltshire Council.

The proposed site, which is two agricultural fields to the south of Salisbury Road (A345) to the east of Coombe Bissett, requires planning permission for the construction and operation of a ground mounted solar farm and associated infrastructure.

The report states that it is estimated the solar panels will generate approximately 30 megawatts of power, enough to supply approximately 9,642 homes per year.

Solar panels would be laid in rows with a three or four metre gap between each row, and the height of the solar panel array would be three metres.

Consultations have been made with bodies including Coombe Bissett Parish Council, who objected; Britford Parish Council, who had no objection; Salisbury City Council, who objected to the development; as well as responses and comments from the Council's climate team and highways committee.

The recommendation made is for the Council to grant planning permission. The planning committee will meet at the County Hall in Trowbridge at 10.30am on August 14.
