Without entering upon the pros and cons of the Stonehenge Tunnel, now that it is defunct as a project, we must remember the needs of other transport users, those on foot, bicycle and horse, who also have rights, and who, under the tunnel scheme, would have been able to freely roam across that landscape.

It is still incredibly dangerous and awkward to try and cross the A303, either at the Byway which rises from Lake, or at the footway which comes up from West Amesbury to Stock Bottom - in both places you take your life in your hands trying to cross this busy fast road.
We need a safe underpass to allow access from these two approaches unto the Stonehenge side, something like a roundabout underpass, or as simple as the underpass found in the New Forest near Stoney Cross.
It is now time for the Department of Transport and Wiltshire Council to act on the accessibility of all modes of transport.
