A CARE agency were staff are "kind, caring and pleasant" has been praised by the Care Quality Commission following its first inspection.

Dignify Care Limited, at the Portway Centre, Old Sarum, was recently rated 'good' across the board by the CQC.

Inspectors assessed the domiciliary care provider, which cares for people living in their own homes, from June 14 to July 2.

A formal office visit took place on June 27 and inspectors found that people had their medicines as prescribed and staff supported them safely.

However, some medicines needed 'as required' did not have detailed guidance for staff.

Risks to people’s safety had been assessed and guidance was in place but, for some people, this guidance was not up to date.

Staff had been recruited safely and they all received an induction which they felt prepared them for their roles.

This induction included training, shadowing more experienced members of staff and one-to-one supervisions.

The CQC inspector reported: "Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs and recognised the importance of person-centred care.

"The registered manager was also very knowledgeable about people's needs and regularly did visits to people’s homes."

Service users and relatives offered positive feedback and inspectors recorded comments such as: "The carers are brilliant, could not wish for better.

"They [staff] consistently engage with [person] and are always on time. There are no missed calls, they are the best ever carers.”

A running theme among the comments was that people believed the carers were trained "to very high standards", punctual and hygienic.

Staff reportedly respected service users' privacy and promoted dignity.

“They [staff] are very kind, caring and pleasant," one person commented.

"They do whatever I want. They close the curtains for my dignity."

Inspectors noted a complaints policy and that all complaints had been investigated and resolved.

Governance systems are in place at Dignify Care to monitor the quality and safety of the service.

The registered manager also performed spot checks to ask for feedback about the service and if any changes needed to be made.

Care plans were readily accessible to service users and their relatives and some people told the CQC they were involved in care reviews.

A spokesperson for Dignify Healthcare said: "We feel proud of our team, for this amazing result and hard work.

"Quality care givers is our hallmark."

Dignify Healthcare offers a range of household services including live-in care, administration of prescribed medication, household chores, shopping and dementia care.
