A FORMER mayor of Salisbury has posted a photograph of himself with a bandaged ear in solidarity of Donald Trump following his attempted assassination.

Salisbury City councillor Atiqul Hoque, who was expelled from the Conservative party for alleged antisemitic comments last year, said he can 'walk with his head high and continue to serve'.

Mr Hoque uploaded the photograph alongside a lengthy social media post on Monday evening, July 22, in which he claimed he conducted himself as the 762nd mayor "with panache".

The post read: "Interesting… in politics if you're good, bad or a threat, someone will always try to bring you down.

"Today I attach a picture of Mr Trump. I must admit I'm not a huge fan but I have been told his (sic) good for the people of his country.

"What they tried to do to him is very wrong and ill!"

Mr Hoque continued: "I also attach a similar picture of me in solideraty (sic) to Mr Trump, and a message to those….

"You can try to put me down or quieten me but people of Salisbury knows what type of person/Councillor I am and how I conducted my terms in office as a #762Mayor with panache!"

Some followers met the post with unease with one person replying, however, others backed Mr Hoque's political stance.
