KITTENS which were dumped and left for dead in a bin bag have died, despite a vet's best efforts.

Two kittens were rescued from a skip in Stonefield Park, Chilbolton, on Friday morning, July 19, which was one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Noises were coming from a shared skip and upon investigation the workers found two tiny kittens in a polythene bin bag fighting for their lives.

The young kittens, thought to be just days old, were rescued by a volunteer at Amesbury-based charity Cat Watch Wiltshire Rescue.

But founder Marnie Buckland issued the "very saddest of news" on Monday morning, July 22.

She said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to let you know that the kittens found in the carrier bag in the bin haven’t made it.

"We and the vet tried our very best but it seems they may have been away from their Mama longer than initially thought and their little bodies simply couldn’t take it.

"We are devastated. Thank you all so so much for your support."

Marnie said the industrial park has become a hotspot for people dumping cats and estimates there to be 30 feral cats in the area.

She added: "This year has been horrific. It's still not common in the Wiltshire area but this year has been ridiculously stupid because of the cost of living crisis."

The kittens were left for dead amid a mini heatwave as the area has seen temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius.
