South Wilts Grammar School waved farewell to its headteacher of 13 years at a leavers' presentation on the last day of term.

After over 20 years’ dedicated service to the school and 13 years as headteacher, the morning of Friday, July 20 saw Michele Chilcott's last day before retirement.

The head student team at South Wilts Grammar School led the staff leavers' presentation where they celebrated Mrs Chilcott’s leadership across a period that has seen the school grow and develop.

In her time as head teacher, Mrs Chilcott has seen the school through challenges such as the pandemic, and more recently, the transition to a co-educational sixth form.

Over recent weeks, Mrs Chilcott received messages from staff, students, former colleagues, alumni, families and the community who all wished Mrs Chilcott the very best for her retirement.

Mrs Chilcott expressed her thanks to "a wonderful, loyal, professional and committed staff, always striving for what is best for the SWGS community" and added that she would "miss the buzz of teaching students."

Dr Amanda Smith, who has been the head teacher at Poole Grammar School for the last four years, will take over from September. She returns to South Wilts having previously been the deputy head teacher at the school.
