A Salisbury primary school has been honoured for keeping staff and children safe online.

Manor Fields Primary School was awarded the 360-degree safe Online Safety Mark after it was assessed by the South West Grid for Learning Trust.

It reviewed the school’s online safety provision and found it to have a high level of protection for all users of technology. The trust provides a range of online technology services to schools across the country, and is at the forefront of national and international developments in online safety. They have developed an online safety tool which allows schools to evaluate their online safety policy and then suggests how they might do more to protect the pupils and staff.

Following the visit, the report said: “There is outstanding, whole school collaboration in the development of online safety policies and good practice, which is clearly led by the Online Safety Lead, Miss Hitchings.

"Staff, governors and pupils at Manor Fields are fully committed to ensuring their time spent on the internet is a safe and happy experience for all who use it.”

The lead assessor, Ron Richards, also congratulated the school on its success and commented that it was reassuring that the school had put a lot of effort into improving the online safety of the staff and students.

To apply for the Online Safety Mark, schools must show a series of basic levels of online safety which are then verified by an assessor, and provide education for pupils, parents, and staff on online safety.
