RESIDENTS were told to close their windows as firefighters tackled a barn fire near Salisbury.
Crews from Salisbury, Wilton, Fordingbridge and Christchurch rushed to a farm in Odstock shortly after 6am on Friday, July 19.
A barn full of hay had caught fire and a water carrier, which is capable of transporting 9k litres of water to remote incidents, was mobilised.
Salisbury Fire Station warned locals that the fire was creating a lot of smoke and advised them to keep doors and windows closed if they live nearby.
A spokesperson for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a field off Whitsbury Road, Odstock at 6.17am this morning (July 19) where a barn containing hay was well alight.
"Four fire crews initially attended, from Salisbury (x2), Fordingbridge and Christchurch, together with the water carrier from Wilton.
"A fire break has been created by farm personnel, and the area around the barn is being kept dampened down to prevent fire spread to adjacent standing crops."
A crew from Salisbury, a small 4x4 appliance from Verwood and a water carrier remained on the scene and was still present at 2.30pm.
