A person has been found dead after emergency services rushed to a railway line in Wiltshire.
Trains running directly from Swindon to Bristol Parkway were cancelled on Wednesday morning, July 17, after Wiltshire Police and the South Western Ambulance Service rushed to an incident in Brinkworth, near Chippenham.
National Rail told passengers that delays could be expected until 11.15am, but then later extended to this until 3pm as more details about the incident unfolded.
"The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Swindon and Bristol Parkway," said a spokesperson for National Rail.
"To allow them to safely carry out their work, the line is currently closed."
Almost four hours after the initial delays, the British Transport Police has now confirmed that a person has died on the railway line.
“Officers were called to the Brinkworth area at 8.40am today (July 17) following reports of a casualty on the tracks," said a spokesperson for the British Transport Police.
"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances behind the person’s death.”
Trains on the direct Swindon to Bristol Parkway line will continue to be cancelled until 4.40pm on Wednesday, and passengers hoping to get to Bristol must instead get the train to Bristol Temple Meads and then transfer from there to Bristol Parkway.
