Dr David Longbourne, a renowned Mere doctor, was remembered at a remembrance service held at St Michael's earlier this month.

With a career spanning five decades, he touched many lives in Mere where he served since the 1960s.

Beginning his tenure at Latimer House, his final practice was at Dark Lane Mere, a surgery built with his guidance.

As a supporter of St Micheal's Church, Dr Longbourne was renowned for his research on Mere's history.

He published a respected history book, 'The Book of Mere', and served as the curator of Mere museum for 22 years.

His service to the museum earned him an MBE.

After serving as a Naval Doctor, he eventually came to Mere, moving through various practice locations, including The Old Rectory at Church Street.

A well-attended remembrance service was held in his honour at St Michael's Church on Wednesday, July 10, at 2pm.

The wake took place in the garden of Dr Longbourne's house, The Old Rectory, followed by an indoor function at the Grove Building Church Street.

Dr Longboune passed away in March this year, and the service was well attended by family and the wider community.
