A SALISBURY dog owner is fundraising in order to save her three-year old dog from severe pain and scarring.

Georgina Haviland-Smith, 33, is the owner of Mango and has set up the GoFundMe to raise much needed funds for specialist surgery after he was treated poorly on the streets of Cyprus.

Georgina said: “We got Mango about a year and a half ago; he was fostered by a friend who volunteers in Cyprus for Paws 4 Homes”

Before being rescued Mango had spent six months on the streets in Cyprus without receiving aid.

Georgina added: “Locals noticed he had the wound but left him to it essentially; some people would throw stones at him if he was going through their bins”

“He had quite a nasty wound to his neck, from his ears right to the base of his neck, there was rotting flesh and the rope had embedded to his internal structures”

Speaking on the GoFundMe page, Georgina said Mango has come on leaps and bounds since his arrival in 2022.

“He took such a long time to fully decompress, I cannot stress how sweet he is but the poor boy was shut down, robotic and couldn't look you in the eye", she said.

"Fast forward to 2024 and he has become the most wonderful family dog. He’s gained weight, wags his tail, loves his other furry friends. Mango is truly the perfect companion.”

Although Mango’s condition has massively improved, the extent of the scarring has continued to cause problems and pain, Georgina told the Journal: “If he runs around or exerts energy the scar rips and the wound open. We can’t keep going down the route of antibiotics and pain relief, it not something that is pleasant for Mango and having to wear bandages around his neck a lot’”

Due to the severity and complexity of Mango’s scarring, Georgina has been advised that specialist imaging and operation is required by a highly experienced vet.

“We need to find a specialist willing to take it on, it’s not something normally seen. It’s requires specialist imagery not something a local vet can do”

“We know we’re going to have to fund some of the money ourselves, but anything towards a £10,000 specialist vet bill is welcome”

“He’s only three years old, he doesn’t deserve to be put down because of something another human has done to him”.
