Students, staff and trustees of an independent specialist college are celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ following a recent Ofsted inspection.
Sheiling College, Ringwood, provides day and 38-week residential placements on a three year programme for young people between the ages of 19 and 25 with severe, complex and moderate learning disabilities, including autistic spectrum disorders.
Set in a 45-acre site close to the New Forest and Dorset coastline, the natural surroundings of the college provide a rich, enabling and therapeutic learning environment for its students.
Students benefit from a co-created, bespoke and personalised curriculum along with tailored work experience opportunities.
The report highlighted that learners at the school 'develop the knowledge and skills they need to prepare for their next steps because of good-quality teaching'.
The report added that school leaders are ambitious in their learning schedule, ensuring students follow individual study programmes to develop knowledge and skills they need to 'achieve their planned outcome when they leave college.'
Learners enjoy studying at the college and value how their achievements are celebrated by staff, with students said to 'appreciate' how their interests are used by teachers, tailoring lessons to incorporate these interests to engage students.
The report concluded by saying learners take part in the many opportunities to learn about and prepare for the world of work. Most learners at the college who study for a qualification, achieve, with almost all learners progressing to a positive destination when they leave college.
The report added that 'trustees use their knowledge and expertise to support and challenge leaders well.'
Head of College, Mike Gamble said: "Although the great outcomes for students and the hard work of our staff is clear to see, it is very encouraging to have formal confirmation that the college is doing so well.
"I am proud of what students achieve and am grateful to the staff teams who are dedicated in their work, providing the platform and opportunities for our students to reach these wonderful outcomes."
