THE candidates for an upcoming city council by-election have been announced.

The vote is in the Salisbury St Francis and Stratford Ward of the City Council, and will take place on July 11.

It comes following the resignation of Mark Mewse, was who convicted of harassment at Salisbury Magistrates Court in March.

Robin Jackson is standing for the Liberal Democrats, Sharon Rideout is standing for the Labour Party, and Andrew Suddards is standing for the Conservative Party.

The counting of votes will take place as soon as possible after close of poll (10pm) at St Francis Church Hall.

The next full city council meeting takes place on Monday, June 24, at Salisbury Guildhall.

A number of motions have been tabled by councillors, including a motion to agree the erection of a temporary stage for six weeks on land between the Guildhall and Market Squares, requests for compensation for businesses on Fisherton Street for those companies that can show proof of reduced takings as a result of the Fisherton Gateway project, and for the council to produce a workable plan to deal with the out-of-control footpath/road kerb line weed growth within the Fisherton and Bemerton Village Ward.
