Chris Harwood in his letter (Journal Postbag, June 20), seems to be living in cloud cuckoo land in his apparent, confident, statement that the rapid change to Net Zero will generate wealth.
I note that he offers no evidence to support his statement.
Hundreds of thousands of people will be out of work due to closure of the many heavy industries. Imports to replace the products would worsen the balance of trade, and, the pollution would simply be increased in the Country that we import from together with the requirement to transport the goods.
Government income would decrease resulting in considerable increases in Government debt, increasing the current £2.7 trillion.
This is currently 99.9 per cent of GDP, with the reduction of GDP the percentage would be considerably higher.
In fact, the UK would be bankrupt.
