THE man who is accused of killing Tsvetomir Genov admitted to stabbing him but said it was 'never his intention to kill him'.

Maurice Jones, 25, of Nottingham, told the police he "lost control" after the first stab and that he was "remorseful for this man's death".

This came in the form of a prepared statement offered in his fourth interview, on August 23. Before this, he gave three 'no comment' interviews.

Tsvetomir Genov, 20, died in Gainsborough Close on August 22, 2023.

Jones was arrested and charged with murder but pleaded not guilty to the offence last December.

He has been on trial at Winchester Crown Court since Monday, June 3.

The first words to come out of Jones' mouth in the interview were: "I feel like S*** innit. What else can I say."

Jones had been in a relationship with Mr Genov's ex-girlfriend Sinead Hughes for a matter of weeks before the incident.

His intention when he stabbed Mr Genov was "to teach him a lesson for what he done to her and how he goes on to me and stuff because I am in her life".

When asked whether he thought stabbing Mr Genov would cost him his life, Jones replied: "No not really because I blacked out and I wasn't expecting it to elevate so far."

Jones said he left Sinead Hughes' flat with a knife because he thought Mr Genov may have "had something".

He denies the charge of murder. The trial continues.
