A CYCLIST hit by a car that failed to stop in Quidhampton has spoken out after the shocking incident.

On Monday, June 3, Ash Greaves, 34, was injured after a car hit his bicycle and drove away at "high speed".

Ash suffered mild injuries to his leg and was treated by paramedics at the scene on Lower Road at around 12.30pm.

He described the incident to the Journal: "I was on the backroads, where the speed limit is 20mph. A driver behind me got angry and said get the f*** out my way, revved the engine and side-swiped me.

"It's completely destroyed my bike, probably four or five hundred [pounds] worth of damage - which I can't afford."

He explained that the stress had even caused him to be signed off work for a week, due to the worsening of an existing struggle with anxiety disorder.

He said: "I’ve recently become a pagan and I’ve never been interested in driving. My bike is my lifeline. It gets me out of the house - and now I can’t even do that.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the gentleman who gave me a lift back to Salisbury. I don’t remember his name but he lived a few doors down from the accident. And thank you to anyone else who stopped.

"It’s just a reminder to drivers that they aren’t the only ones on the road, cyclists have as much right to be on the roads too.”

Ash added: "Luckily, my bike took most of the impact, but it was the emotional shock. I was extremely lucky, one officer said that further up the road, I could’ve been sandwiched in between two cars."

Police officers are still investigating the incident and want to speak with the driver of a green Mazda MX-5.
