A Wiltshire Police officer has been left seriously injured after being 'intentionally' ploughed down by a car while on duty.

The officer, who has not been named, was on duty between Rowde and Devizes on Saturday, June 1, when he spotted a vehicle parked in a field at around 11.30pm.

The police officer pulled over and got out of his car in an attempt to speak to the occupants of the vehicle.

But having spotted the marked police car and uniform, the driver of the vehicle quickly made off from the location, and intentionally drove into the officer as they left.

The police officer, who was on foot when he was hit, was taken to hospital as a result of his injuries.

“This is a significant incident where an officer undertaking their duties has intentionally been injured by the driver of the vehicle," said Duty Superintendent Conway Duncan.

"We are providing ongoing welfare support to the officer and their family. Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Wiltshire Police are now undertaking extensive and urgent inquiries to find the person responsible for the incident.

"We would encourage anyone with information to come forward," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.

"Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage should call the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 383 on June 1."
