A MAN has been slapped with a hefty fine after he was caught dropping a cigarette.

John McDonagh, of Oaktree Field Caravan Site, Odstock Road, threw down and left the cigarette butt on Chorlton Street in Manchester on August 14.

The 23-year-old was proved guilty through a single justice procedure at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 9.

He had breached section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Magistrates fined McDonagh £220 and ordered him to pay court costs of £125 as well as an £88 surcharge to fund victim services.
