A RECORD number of runners took part in this year's Race for Men.

The event, which took place at Hudson's Field, on Sunday, May 26, raised money for prostate cancer services in Salisbury.

This year was the 8th annual event and runners could enter a half-marathon, 10k, 5k or 3k fun run, alongside 5-a-side football, music, entertainment and food and drinks.

Since 2015, the event has raised more than £54k for the Stars Appeal, and this year the organisers are hoping to have reached the £60k mark.

Event director Toby Giles said: “It went absolutely brilliantly, it was a really good day and the rain didn’t spoil it at all.

“We had record numbers of runners, 500 runners signed up which we’ve never had before, and it’s double what we had last year.

“We’re just tallying up totals to find out how much we raised. We’re looking forward to finding out!”

Toby added: “The cause is so important, we set-up Race for Men because my father had prostate cancer in 2013 and we felt there was not enough awareness. We approached Stars Appeal to set up a prostate cancer fund for us, and we have now raised over £54,000.

“Dad’s now recovered and ran the 3k yesterday. It’s really close to our hearts, we have heard so many stories of people who lost loved ones – or going through it themselves.

“We just want to do as much as we can, and I am overwhelmed by the support from Salisbury, family and friends.”
