ONE of the  NSPCC’s longest serving fundraisers has set up a JustGiving page to mark her 110th birthday.

Anne Baker, who lives in Harnham, will celebrate the milestone birthday on Tuesday, May 14.

Anne has received personal birthday greetings from Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen and daughter Rebecca Wilcox, Deputy President of the NSPCC counselling service.

Dame Esther wrote: “I will never forget meeting Anne, and congratulating her on her extraordinary commitment and support for children, I am thrilled to be able to congratulate her on her 110th birthday, and repeat how deeply grateful we all are to her.

“With love and many, many congratulations, Esther.”

Having already claimed a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest recipient of the MBE, which she was awarded at the age of 106 for her services to charity, Anne continues to raise money for the NSPCC.

She will celebrate her birthday this coming weekend with a lunch with her family, but rather than accept gifts herself, Anne has asked family and friends to donate to the NSPCC.

Her son David said: “Such a birthday surely deserves a party! So the family have arranged a party at the Rose and Crown in Harnham so she can cut a cake in celebration and enjoy being with her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and her great great grandchildren.

"We wish her a very Happy Birthday 110th.”

Anne held coffee mornings at her home in Harnham for many years to help raise money for the NSPCC. These events grew over time to include stalls, a raffle and coffee and cakes. She has raised thousands of pounds for the children’s charity through her efforts.

When asked why she was such a strong supporter of the NSPCC Anne has previously said: “I have always loved children. We owe them protection; they are our future.”

Emma Hildesley, NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Wiltshire, said: “Anne has always been a selfless supporter of the NSPCC and an inspiration to many of our fundraising volunteers and our staff. She has been dedicated in her support for the charity and her many friends at the NSPCC are delighted to see her celebrate her 110th birthday.”

NSPCC have also partnered with Newsquest this year, where the charity will be gifted with over £6 million worth of advertising.

In May and June, Newsquest will also be publishing an NSPCC supplement across its extensive portfolio of titles with 10 per cent of revenue generated from advertising donated directly to the charity.
