A CITY councillor shaved a man's head in a fundraising effort for a cancer charity.
Andy Dunning, 57, got the idea after his cousin Ellen Wheeler was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
Thankfully Ellen is now in remission, but all money raised will go to Leukaemia UK.
The job was undertaken by city councillor Charles McGrath, who was himself diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2022.
A blood test led to his diagnosis and Charles then spent nearly three months going in and out of hospital while he had three rounds of chemotherapy.
A further round left him with pneumonia in intensive care at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.
He is now in remission and has been able to return to his role as a councillor.
Andy, who is originally from Bolton but has lived in Salisbury for 18 years, said: "I just wanted to do my little bit. Ellen is in remission now but is still having to have treatment so I just thought I would anything I can to help".
Charles shaved Andy's hair at his regular barbers, West Street Barbers in Wilton, which is run by Andy Drake.
Mr Drake has said he will donate a portion of his takings from Saturday to the charity.
Andy has raised £650 so far and has not set a target but is hoping to get as much as possible.
