About 70 people participated in the fourteenth candlelight vigil for permanent ceasefire in Gaza, Israel and the West Bank Palestinian Territories on March 9.
Organised by Salisbury Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), in collaboration with Sarum Concern for Israel & Palestine and Salisbury Amnesty International, the vigil marked the local groups' contribution to a national campaign.
Saturday's vigil focused on the numbers of children's deaths in Gaza, symbolized by children's shoes laid out among the candles. Salisbury CND spokesperson emphasized the urgent need for politicians worldwide to apply maximal pressure for a durable ceasefire.
Another vigil in Salisbury is anticipated every Saturday in March from 5.15 to 5.45pm, in parallel with a national protest in London.
