AN artist has been tasked with bringing a toilet block to life with a riverside mural.

Krishna Malla, the mastermind behind Tech Moon, has begun spray painting native river creatures on the Salisbury Central Car Park public toilets.

The 38-year-old Bournemouth-based artist has been working on the design since last year after he was successful in a River Park-funded competition.

Krishna, who has been drawing since he was old enough to hold a pencil, started with a kingfisher mural on Monday, March 4, and he will be decorating the other walls with an otter, an Atlantic salmon and a butterfly.

His design was decided "just a few months ago" and it features details of plants found along the river, such as crowfoot and yellow flag.

The end result will be a mix of artistic styles with the spray painted creatures framed in a striking marble-texture border to give them a "3D pop".

It is the first major piece of artwork that Krishna has been commissioned to make in Salisbury but he has decorated large buildings across Bournemouth and Boscombe in the past.

If the weather stays dry, Krishna hopes to complete the artwork within six weeks. He said: "It can look quite scruffy at the beginning but people have been really supportive and positive so far."

These new murals come after Fred Fieber painted sea creatures on the Millstream Coach Park toilet block last year.
