Salisbury car parks charge £1.60 to £1.90 for one hour.
Trowbridge car parks vary from 90p (four of them) to £1.20 (one) for one hour, but the St Stephen’s Place multi-storey is free for three hours!
Salisbury has long been Wiltshire Council’s cash cow, but what makes the prices worse is not being able to use the ticket in more than one car park.
For example, if I buy a ticket in Lush House car park for a 15-minute medical appointment or to collect a prescription and I then want to get a couple of things in the city centre, I have to buy another ticket.
Even a single two-hour ticket would be cheaper than two one-hour tickets, and the extra free hour for disabled drivers may not be much use if the ticket isn’t portable. So why not?
The only answer for those who live near enough and are fit enough is a bicycle.
