More people in Salisbury are taking to Google for money-saving tips than almost anywhere else in the UK, according to a study released by personal finance advice website WealthUp.
According to the data, more than 1.4 per cent of the entire population of Salisbury (1,454 per 100,000 people) has searched Google within the past 12 months for terms such as “how to save money” and “payday loans”.
Only Mansfield and Wrexham beat the cathedral city with their monthly averages in such searches, at 1,673 per 100,000 residents and 1,815 per 100,000 residents, respectively.
Salisbury is the southernmost city by far to make the dubious top ten list of people searching Google about money woes, with the rest of the list populated mostly by communities in Scotland and the north of England.
Hereford—the nearest city to Salisbury to also make the top ten—placed ninth, with 1,128 people per 100,000 residents.

On the other end of the spectrum, the list of places where people are least likely to search Google for money advice is more geographically diverse.
Oxford makes the list at number one, while Cambridge comes in at number nine.
The nearest city to Salisbury on this list is Winchester, in second place, with only 258 per 100,000 residents consulting Google about financial difficulties.
A spokesperson for WealthUp said during the cost-of-living crisis, careful, meticulous budgeting and understanding one’s costs are essential. They also advised saving money when and where possible on luxuries while not giving up all comforts.
They said: "Once you have figured out how much you must spend on living costs, see what you have left to play with and be as nifty as you can be.
"Go for meals but during happy hour, treat yourself to a beauty treatment but only if they are offering a discounted price for a cancellation, or visit your nearest national park but using a voucher sourced from a newspaper.”
