SEE what a former asylum looked like before and after it was turned into retirement flats.
An eight-year multimillion-pound project to restore Finch House, on Wilton Road, was completed in December, 2023.
Developers Affordable Housing and Healthcare Group (AHH), which owns Platinum Skies, gave the former 19th-century Old Manor Hospital a new lease of life.
It will now offer 21 luxury apartments for retired residents over the age of 55 which range in price from £199k to £595k.
When the group acquired the whole site for £4.1m in 2014, Finch House was a derelict shell of its former self.
Photographs taken just before work began, on November 28, 2015, have revealed how much the building has changed.
AHH revealed its action plan at a presentation in March 2018 which detailed the planned phases of development.
Finch House had been deemed "unsafe" and its internal structure was "beyond any sort of repair".
As a result, a facade retention scheme was implemented in an attempt to keep it stable while a new internal structure was made.
In February 2021, the facade was pulled down after being deemed "structurally unsound".
The building's interior has since been overhauled to include two new homeowner lounges.
All of the photographs were taken by Spencer Mulholland.
