WORK has started on a restoration project on a Grade-I listed church.
After receiving a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, restoration work has begun on the tower of St Michael the Archangel Church in Mere.
Scaffolding can be seen adorning the 38-metre-high 15th-century tower of the 13th-century church, with restoration and repairs to the church's pinnacles, pennant and church clock taking place.
Work is expected to last until July.
The Friends of St Michael’s Church received the grant of £247,843 in August for a restoration project entitled “The Tower Stories,” which also aims to provide new opportunities for people to engage with the history and heritage of the building.
