Pete Lucas has died peacefully at home at the age of 73 surrounded by his family.
Born on December 16, 1950, Pete went on to play bass for a number of important bands, including proto-garage rock legends, The Troggs, and beat rockers Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, who formed in Salisbury in 1964 and went on to find huge fame with hits such as Hold Tight! and The Legend of Xanadu.
Pete retired during the Covid pandemic after a career spanning more than five decades.
He had recently been diagnosed with cancer and had been in Salisbury Hospital, but he found the strength to go home to his favourite armchair, where he died on Saturday, his 73rd birthday (December 16, 2023).
Many residents and visitors to Salisbury and the surrounding villages will fondly remember Pete for his kindness, his laughter, and his love of sharing a story of rock’n’roll excess over a drink at any one of his favourite local watering holes.
Social media was flooded with outpourings of grief from friends, fans, and contemporaries, including The Deloreons, who posted on Facebook that Pete was “A legend, hugely inspiring, and a true gent”.
His former band The Troggs posted on Facebook to say: "Pete was a good mate and a stalwart in the Troggs since 1975 up until retiring with the onset of Covid in 2020.
"He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Cate and his family. RIP old pal".
A resident of Bowerchalke since 1981, Pete is survived by his wife, Cate, and his son, Luke.
His funeral will take place in the new year.
