THIS year's Poppy Appeal raised more than £70,000 for the Royal British Legion.

Wendy Oliver, the Poppy Appeal Organiser from the Salisbury Branch of the Royal British Legion, says this is a "huge increase" on totals in recent years.

On hearing of this large total Salisbury’s Mayor,  Atiqul Hoque, who has strongly supported this year’s Appeal and RBL President Chris Child both praised the generosity of Salisbury residents and all the hard work of the dedicated band of Poppy Appeal Volunteers.

Salisbury RBL Vice President Bob Barwick said: "This is a fantastic outcome to this year's Poppy Appeal.

"We continue to be amazed and humbled by the support from the all the people, shops, businesses, schools and Pubs of this great City.  We would like to thank our Poppy Appeal Volunteers who all did such an amazing job, they helped with the collections at both Tesco stores, Waitrose, Bradbeers, the RBL Gazebo and at the train station.

"Not forgetting all the street collectors, especially the Salisbury Army cadets who collected in the city centre over the three weekends.  We are also really grateful to Salisbury AFVBC  and their Field Kitchen for all their support throughout the Appeal.  To one and all thank you."
