A FESTIVE Fashion Upcycling Workshop is to take place in the city centre when a book shop turns into a sustainable style studio.
Author Tash Bell who wrote middle-grade novel The Swish, will run the Festive Fashion Upcycling Workshop at The Rocketship bookshop.
Tash Bell said: "Fashion upcycling is such a fun way to help the planet and Christmas is the perfect time to come together and get creative.
"I was inspired to run a festive fashion upcycling workshop, as my teen novel The Swish is set at Christmas time: it tells the story of schoolgirl Kat, a ‘charity shop Cinderella’ who can turn old clothes into gorgeous new outfits with the flash of her needle, and dares to make her own gown for the Winter Wonderland Ball.
"Over the course of this year, I’ve sewn with hundreds of young people at Swish workshops, and I’m always blown away by the creativity and humour they bring to their designs. The fun of upcycling is you don’t need to be a great sewer – thread a needle, start some wobbly running stitch, and you’re away."

Tash wrote her book to inspire young readers to get sewing and thrifting for themselves and sales from the book also help to fund fashion upcycling workshops for local schools, and youth charities. Tash has recently partnered with Fashioning our World at Salisbury Museum to put on a young people's sustainable fashion show at Salisbury Arts Centre.
She added: "If you can’t sew, you can create slogans with fabric pens – or just slash off sleeves from a t-shirt to make a vest/ cut a fringe along the bottom to make a crop top. The possibilities are as endless as young people’s imagination."
The event is for those who wish to transform an old sweater into a jumper fit for the Christmas festivities or glam up an old jacket or t-shirt ready for the festive season. Bring a preloved jumper or top and the customising kit, sewing tips, and upcycling inspiration will all be provided.
The workshop takes place The Rocketship bookshop on Fisherton Street in Salisbury on Saturday, December 9 at noon. Tickets are £6 and includes a copy of The Swish.
