Councillor Paul Sample had reminded councillors at the Environment and Climate meeting that many people would have happy memories of Gilbert the Dragon and that like the Salisbury Giant, Gilbert had become a much-loved part of city life.

He said: "A classic vote on Facebook would enable young people to participate - at a very early stage- in democratic decision-making."

Votes must be made on or before Monday, October 30 on the Salisbury City Council's Facebook page.
