Jim Morton reached the summit of Ben Nevis as a continuation of his year-and-a-half-long journey across Britain upon which he embarked in 2021 for the benefit of The Gurkha Welfare Trust, a national charity for the Gurkha community with head offices in Salisbury.
Jim said he set off at 8.40am on Sunday, August 13 with his wife, Sue, and dog, Maisie.
Jim said in a Facebook post: “Sue's never climbed higher than the top bunk and Maisie has not even done that… I carried Maisie only five miles, the rest she walked. We are all absolutely cream crackered, and I am incredibly proud of Sue and Maisie.”

Jim set off on his initial walk on Monday, April 12, 2021, walking 13.34 miles from Penistone to Crowden. Over the next 537 days, he made a full loop of the entire coast of mainland Britain before returning home to Penistone on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Jim said on his JustGiving page that he started the walk around Britain to benefit the Gurkha Welfare Trust “because they have served Britain for over 200 years.” As of writing, Jim’s campaign has raised £34,161 from 869 supporters, just under £16,000 short of the £50,000 goal.
Jim subsequently published a book about his journey entitled I May Be Gone A While which can be ordered by sending a message to his Facebook page.
