Old Sarum will play host to one of several Knights’ Tournaments to be held at English Heritage sites across the country.
The Knights’ Tournament at Old Sarum, which will take place from 10am to 5pm on the weekend of Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, will see four rival knights don their armour and battle for glory, ably assisted along the way by their trusty squires.
After four gruelling rounds to test each knight’s strength and skill, including hand-to-hand combat, sword fighting and archery, the winner will be crowned in a grand melee final.

The event will also include a living history encampment in Outer Bailey, where the knights’ supporters will welcome visitors to see what life would have been like on the move for medieval soldiers. Characters from the past will show how they went about weapon repairs, cooking and day-to-day life.
Ella Harrison, event manager at English Heritage, said: “Every year we love seeing how our visitors immerse themselves in our events. Families pick their favourite knight they want to win in a contest and all ages have a go at our activities too.
"It’s a fantastic atmosphere and a really engaging way for us for tell some of history’s richest stories at Old Sarum.”
