SHOPS in Salisbury city centre are without power following an unplanned outage caused by a ‘fault’.

Hundreds of people in the city centre, including shops, have been affected by the power cut which is expected to last until 3.30pm.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has reported that the power cut is affecting around 270 customers in the city centre, including some in Wyndham Road, Castle Road, and parts of Castle Street and Churchill Way.

A member of the public said that the outage is impacting some shops in the area which are unable to work the tills.

A message sent to customers by SSEN said: “We’re aware you may currently be affected by a power cut. We are getting engineers on the way to restore power to your area ASAP.”

Further information on the company’s website says engineers are at the scene “working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can”.

It estimates that the power cut is impacting around 17 postcodes in the area.

The outage was reported to SSEN at 10.25am and it hopes to restore power by 3.30pm.

SSEN has been asked for further information.
