The Stonehenge tunnel project received approval from the Secretary of State for Transport on Friday, July 14, after a previous approval was quashed by the High Court.
Below is a list of all monuments listed by Historic England (along with their List Entry Numbers), that will be within the boundaries of the project, according to a map published with the environmental statement of the final recommendation report of the five-member examining authority published in January 2020.
List of scheduled monuments entirely within the boundaries of the proposed Stonehenge tunnel scheme
1008947- Bowl barrow 300m south west of New king Barrows (partially overlaid by tunnel)
1008953- Long barrow 250m north of Normanton Gorse (completely overlaid by tunnel)
1012420- Bowl barrow forming part of a round barrow cemetery known as the New King Barrows (partially overlaid by tunnel)
1012129- Bowl barrow 150m east of Stonehenge Cottages on A303 (entirely within scheme boundary but not overlaid by tunnel)
1010832- Bowl barrow south of the A303 and north west of Normanton Gorse (partially overlaid by tunnel)
1010140- The Avenue (Partially overlaid by the tunnel. A section of the Avenue—which shares its heritage designation and boundary with Stonehenge itself—is already overlaid by the current A303. It is an ancient route running from the stones to West Amesbury. Arguments in favour of the tunnel are that the two sections of the Avenue currently bisected by the A303 can be reconnected, enabling tourists and hikers to walk along the ancient route.)
Partially within scheme boundaries
1012369- Three bowl barrows immediately north of the A303 on Stonehenge Down (edge within scheme boundary but not overlaid by tunnel)
1012372- Three bowl barrows 150m south of the A303, north of Luxenborough Plantation (partially within scheme boundary but not overlaid by tunnel)
