A rare Devon Rex cat that had been found roaming the streets in the Milton Road area of Salisbury has been reunited with its family.

Devon Rex is a rare breed that has only existed since 1960, according to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.

All Devon Rex cats can trace their ancestry back to a cat named Kirlee from Buckfastleigh who was killed in a car accident in 1970.

The feline was handed in to Endell Pet Vets, where staff named him Crinkle. He was not believed to be a stray as he was microchipped and wearing a collar.

Unfortunately, the microchip had not been registered and did not provide any information as to the identity of the owner. Contact with the implanter did not provide any clues.

On Friday, July 7, Endell Pet Vets took to Facebook to ask the public for help. The initial post received 14 comments and 208 shares, while a later post on Monday, July 10 received 47 comments and was shared 518 times.

On Tuesday, July 11, Endell Pet Vets updated its posts to say that the cat's family had been found.
