A FRUSTRATED mum has raised questions about a playpark outside her home that has been left unopened for more than one year.

Ellen Poole, 45, moved to Longhedge in December 2020 with the knowledge that a "big park" would be opened nearby in the coming years.

Progress looked promising in spring 2022 when the equipment was installed but development paused for a whole year before sections of turf were laid.

Now, the park is surrounded by metal fences but some parts of the ground remain unfinished.

Mrs Poole told the Journal that children were getting through the fence into the park and playing which is "not necessarily safe".

Mrs Poole's nine-year-old son, among other children on the housing estate, wants a play area more suitable for his age, she said: "I am so sick of looking at this wasted playground.

"There is a lot of frustration from other parents and there has not been any sort of communication."

Pupils break up for their summer holidays in two weeks time and Ellen is worried that the park will not be open for the second summer in a row, despite all the equipment being in place.

Upon being questioned by the Journal Vistry Western, developers of Longhedge, said all the parks will open "imminently".

A spokesperson for Vistry Western said: “Four play parks are due to be opened imminently at Longhedge Village and we would like to apologise for the delay.

"Safety audits are being carried out before they are officially handed over to the Parish Council and it is anticipated the parks can be opened early in August, ready for the local community to enjoy over the summer holidays.”
