The New Forest District Council’s (NFDC) New Forest Show this year is set to focus on a theme of climate change awareness.
Councillor Geoffrey Blunden, NFDC’s portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: “We’re returning to the show with a vital focus on ‘Caring for the Climate’ and the impact of climate change on our coastline.
“Make waves with our mini wave simulator which shows the impact of high tides, be a net zero hero and learn about alternatives to plastic products, and pick up some sustainable and money-saving tips to try at home.
“We’ve thought carefully about our presence at the show and taken the most sustainable options where possible. We’ve re-used what we can, including bringing back our popular ‘pledge tree’ from last year, and opted for items made from sustainable materials.”
NFDC is partnering with Channel Coastal Observatory and Hampshire County Council’s climate team. Staff will be on-hand to share tips for the planet and offer the opportunity to get involved in plans to protect the coast.
Cllr Blunden said: “If you’re attending this year, come to our stand to try our fun challenges and games, chat to us about how climate change is affecting our coast and beyond, and find out what we can do to understand and tackle it together.”
The New Forest Show will take place in Brockenhurst on Tuesday, July 25, Wednesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 27. Residents can visit NFDC at their stand next to the East Ring in block 24.
