COUNCILLOR Atiqul Hoque will today become the 762nd mayor of Salisbury.

The Mayor Making ceremony will take place to handover the Mayoral chain from Cllr Tom Corbin to Cllr Hoque.

A Civic Procession of visiting Mayors from neighbouring towns and cities, local dignitaries and invited guests will leave the Guildhall in procession via Fish Row, Butchers Row, Minster Street and into St. Thomas’s Church at around 11.40am with a fanfare played by the Shrewton Silver Band.

The official Mayor Making Service and full council meeting of Salisbury City Council will take place in St Thomas’s Church at 12.00pm.

There is an official handover of the Mayoral Chain by the outgoing Mayor to the new Mayor of the City of Salisbury during this meeting.

The Civic Party will then make their way from St. Thomas’s Church via St Thomas Square and Blue Boar Row to the Guildhall for a private reception.

That the following roads are to be closed (save in any case of emergency) to all traffic at the approximate times set out below:

Between the hours of 10:00 until 10:30

  • Queen Street; from its junction with Blue Boar Row to its junction with New Canal
  • New Canal; from its junction with Queen Street to its junction with High Street
  • High Street (Part); from its junction with New Canal to its junction with St. Thomas Square
  • St. Thomas Square; from its junction with High Street / Silver Street to the access with The Parish Church of St. Thomas and St. Edmunds

And between the hours of 11:20 until 11:55

  • St. Thomas Square; from the access with The Parish Church of St. Thomas and St. Edmunds to its junction with High Street / Silver Street
  • Silver Street; from its junction with High Street / St. Thomas Square to its junction with Minster Street.
  • Minster Street; from its junction with Silver Street its junction with Blue Boar Row
  • Blue Boar Row; from its junction with Minster Street to its junction with Queen Street
