With just five days to go before the Coronation of King Charles III, here is how you can celebrate this weekend.
Salisbury Cathedral
On the big day, the Coronation will be shown live on a big screen in Salisbury Cathedral Nave from 9.30am.
Entry is free and the unfolding events will be shown both on the big screen in the Nave and via two 65” TV screens in the North and South Transepts.
After the screening Swing Unlimited Big Band will swing into action on the West Front (around 1pm) and they’ll be joined by the fabulous Alcock Sisters.
The trio will perform songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, with one or two Blues Brothers numbers to complete the list.
Lindy Hop and Jive fans are welcome to join, and a barbecue and bar will be provided.
The Big Lunch
On Sunday, May 7, Queen Elizabeth Gardens will be transformed into 'Fete in the Gardens' as part of The Big Lunch.
Bring your family, friends and a picnic for this traditional British fete taking place from 11am until 4pm, hosted by Salisbury City Council.
Come and have a go at the fun games and activities, including splat-a-rat, hook-a-duck, tombola and much more whilst supporting our local good causes.
The event will also feature live music, food vendors, Punch and Judy, magic shows, and community stalls in the lovely setting of the park;
The Big Gig
Come on down to Salisbury Market Place from 3pm-10pm and celebrate the King’s Coronation at Music on the Square.
Dance the night away at the ‘Big Gig’ and enjoy live music from Ribble, Ben Vuckovic, Off the Cuff, Evolution Choir, Jimmy Hill Billies and Train to Skaville.
The night will then conclude with fab local band The Deloreons who will be topping off your Sunday celebrations with their lively renditions of hits from across the decades.
The Big Help Out
Bring your spare food items for the 'Big Help Out' on Monday 8 May from 12pm - 4pm.
The food drive asks the Salisbury community to come to Salisbury Market Place and donate an item of food to the network of food organisations that form the Salisbury Foodie Network.
On this day the network will be out in force to collect as much as they can for these projects, sharing in the generosity of our community.
Local organisations will also be there to show the different volunteering opportunities available.
If you are holding any street parties or any events to celebrate the coronation, get in touch and let us know at newsdesk@salisburyjournal.co.uk.
