A CELEBRATION of theatre, and a last goodbye, Shakespeare’s The Tempest is being reimagined and adapted for an outdoor experience.
The reimagining of the tale which takes place on an island filled with magic and mystery will transform Churchill Gardens.
Artistic director and joint chief executive of Wiltshire Creative, Gareth Machin said: “This production is a little bit different. It has been reimagined for the park itself. We are asking the audience to join us on the journey throughout the park as we move around.”

Gareth’s idea is to draw the audience into the play making the community a part of it as the story unfolds and up to 300 people can attend performances each night.
Gareth said: “It’s all a bit of an adventure, there’s music, dance, and puppeteering. The young people involved love the story and they even come up with ideas too. They have become very excited.”

The team have been talking about the production of The Tempest for about two years but much of the hard work has been done over the last six months and rehearsals started two weeks ago. There are ten professional actors and names will be announced next week.
Gareth added: The play will hopefully, remind people of how much they can enjoy a live performance, but I think they will see the park and the city differently afterwards, it’s about perception and how the play transforms.”
The Tempest performance starts on Wednesday, May 24 and finishes on Sunday, June 4. Tickets can be booked at Wiltshire Creative website.
